Frequently Asked Questions

What is cannabis?

Cannabis is a type of psychoactive drug derived from the shredded and dried parts of the cannabis sativa plant, which grows in many of the topical and temperate climates. It has various medical, recreational, and spiritual uses and its effects reach almost every organ in the body.

What are the two main compounds in cannabis?

Though there are more than 100 compounds (or cannabinoids) in the cannabis plant, there are two main ones that affect the human body. The first is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is impairing, mind altering, and causes the high of the drug. The other is cannabidiol (CBD). This is not impairing, doesn’t cause a high, and is often used medicinally.

What kind of effects/side effects come with using cannabis?

There are short-term and long-term effects for cannabis use. In the short term, people can experience altered senses and sense of time, changes in mood, hallucinations, impaired memory, and even psychosis. In the long term, cannabis can cause breathing problems, an increased heart rate, problems with child development during and after pregnancy, and intense nausea and vomiting.
