Asphalt Safety Trainer Certification
Becoming a trainer is ultimately an employer designation. For those who are becoming trainers on their own, you simply have to be able to justify why you are competent enough to be a trainer. For OSHA’s part, they typically want you to have experience and training. While we travel the country certifying trainers, the online training course is an easy and cost-effective way to help employers make the designation by offering the required training.
We send our trainers all over the country training both operators and trainers. And even OSHA does not require a train the trainer certification (they are more interested in what topics are being trained on), many companies and individuals feel more comfortable going through the trainer program from a well-established, industry-recognized training company like us. But it doesn’t always make sense financially for companies. That is why we’ve created the option to get certified online. If you are comfortable training and comfortable with the equipment, you can simply purchase the online trainer course, get your certificate and training kit, and start training. It is a very cost-effective way to go.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Train the Trainer course?
This course is designed to give trainers a better understanding of their responsibilities and what they are training on. In the Train the Trainer course, you will go through a module about how to instruct your trainees so you can be more confident while giving the training. You will also take the exact training course that you’ll be using with your trainees. The Train the Trainer course will include all the tools you will need to give the training, such as exams and keys, PowerPoint presentations, and certificates.
Will I get a certificate?
Yes, upon successful completion of the course and exam, you will have immediate electronic access to your test, a certificate, and an observation checklist that you can use for the practical examination and hands-on portion of the training. Simply print them off.
How many people can use this course? Can I play it for several employees at the same time?
When a course is assigned to an employee, only that employee can take the course. There are several reasons why, the most important being that Train the Trainer courses are designed for individual interaction. Also, there is a final written exam at the end that will be linked to the trainee assigned. CSA requires proof of training and if multiple people were to sit in on that one course, they would not get credit for taking it.
What is included with this training?
The Train the Trainer course will include an online course for trainers to complete and a DIY training kit for trainers to use as they instruct their trainees.
Each kit differs slightly, but they all contain the materials we use when conducting on-site training. More specifically, these materials consist of but are not limited to: a main PowerPoint presentation including instructor notes, student manual files, regulations, written and practical exams and answer keys, pre-shift inspection booklets, classroom forms for proper recording, safe operations posters, and wall and wallet certificate templates, just to name a few. To get an even clearer idea of the contents of each kit, look at the samples included below each kit’s image.
Are these kits Canadian-compliant?
Yes, all of our Hard Hat Training kits are built and continue to be updated by our trainers and inspectors using Canadian guidelines.
Are the kits up to date with Canadian standards?
Yes, all of our Hard Hat Training Kits are up to date with the latest standards. If standards change in the future—as they most certainly will—it will be your responsibility to update your existing kit. Or, if the changes are substantial, we’d be happy to offer a discount for previous customers who simply want to re-purchase the kit.
Can I customize the training materials?
Yes, these training kits are completely customizable. Once you purchase them, they are yours to use as needed. Add or take away slides or test questions. Change the colors and layout. You can even swap out our logo for yours.
Can I reuse the materials in the training?
Yes, once you purchase the kit, the files are yours to use for as long as you have the kit. Use the training presentation and print out the student manuals, exams, and other files as often as needed. We recognize many of our competitors charge for additional student manuals or exams, but we feel that it’s important for you to have what you need when you need it.
Can I share or make copies of the kit for another branch or trainer?
No. Our end user license agreement—which automatically goes into effect upon the purchase of any kit—prohibits all sharing or reproduction of the kit or any of its components. Per this same agreement, we require one kit per trainer or training location.
For example, if you are a trainer employed to travel from location to location, there is no need to purchase additional kits for those locations at which you will train. Likewise, if your company buys the kit to be used exclusively at a certain training location (such as your home office or on a specific vessel), as long as the kit stays there for training purposes, then multiple in-house trainers can use it. However, if you buy the kit to train at your home office and then make a copy or send the files from any parts of the kit to a trainer at a different location, this would be in breach of the agreement and additional kits would need to be purchased.
Having said that, we realize that every situation varies slightly. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us. If you do need to purchase additional kits, we would be happy to offer tiered pricing to make it more cost-effective.
If I download the kit, can I burn it to a disc or save it on a flash drive?
Absolutely. In fact, we encourage you to keep one copy on the computer you will use for training and create another copy for back-up purposes. However, don’t forget that per the end user license agreement, these files cannot be shared or reproduced in any form without express written consent from Safety Provisions, Inc.
How can I customize the training kits?
Because the training materials are created in editable documents (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), customization is as easy as highlighting the area of desired change and deleting, re-wording, or adding content. In terms of the main presentation and any other files using PowerPoint, in some instances we have employed the use of Master Slides. This makes it easy to create changes in large portions of the presentation—like swapping out your logo for ours—easy. Just go to the View>Slide Master in the presentation, make the change there, and then close Master Slide View. Your changes will instantly take effect on the designated slides.
