What's in the Training?

Our Respiratory Protection safety training course is Canada compliant, and our online version fulfills Canada's classroom training requirement. Each class contains sections on common respiratory illnesses, PPE and how to use it correctly, Safe Operations, and more.

This presentation includes intermittent practice quiz questions to prepare for the final written exam included with the course. In addition to the written exam, this course also includes a checklist for employers to use when administering a practical exam.

Though you will still need to familiarize yourself with all other applicable federal, state, provincial, territorial, and local standards, this training encompasses the following standards:

Canada Standards

  • CSA Z94.4-11 - Selection, use, and care of respirators
  • CSA Z180.1-13 - Compressed breathing air and systems

Why Do I Need Training?

In line with regulations, anyone who works with electricity must receive training prior to working on their own. OSHA requirements for refresher training related to forklifts or other processes are very specific. Most other equipment doesn’t have such specific requirements, but it’s wise to follow the same guidelines.

When it comes to refresher training, OSHA’s standard in some instances (like forklifts) are very specific: operators must be re-evaluated every three years to see if they are still competent to operate the equipment. Best practices say to apply this same rule to all types of equipment. A so-called “free-pass” cannot be awarded based on experience, age, or time on the job. The extent of the evaluation is to be determined by the employer but should include a written and practical examination that prove continued competency.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is respiratory protection important?

Some environments have insufficient oxygen levels, harmful dusts, gases, and vapors which could cause suffocation, cancer, and other illnesses.

What is the PPE used for respiratory protection?

Several kinds of masks are used depending on the environment. The two most common kinds include particulate respirators (which filter out airborne particles) and air-purifying respirators (which filter out chemicals and gases). However, depending on the workplace environment, other measures may be taken to eliminate respiratory hazards.

Is dust really a hazard?

Dust particles can collect in the lungs and the lung tissues which can injure the lungs. Some particles are more dangerous for the lungs because toxins could be released by macrophages in the lungs.
